Seeking God First

Distractions can get the best of me some mornings during my devotional time. There have been mornings I have been more focused on my phone or plans for the day, that I am truly not seeking God first. I am chasing after other things than seeking after Him.
There may be days when we don’t always put Jesus first in everything that we do, but Jesus tells us in Mathew 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well (NIV).
As I read about Esther, she told Mordecai and everyone else to fast in Esther 4:16. She was seeking God, setting things aside and fasting, with hopes He would go before her in her situation that she was facing. And He did!
Why do we do seek God? Because we put our faith in God. He is our God, our Savior and the One who has the answers and is able to. He guides us like we would as a parent guiding our own children. We are trusting God and not leaning on our own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6). We don't have all the answers or the ability and so it is so important to seek God first, to lean on Him, and He will make our paths straight.
I know life gets busy, distractions come about, our focus may turn to other things, but God knows best for us as we journey through life. He is the only One we can put our hope in. I encourage you to set aside time to seek Him first and see how He changes your life.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for being You, a loving Father who cares deeply for Your children. Thank You for turning my focus on what is important. I pray I will always put You first in my life. In Jesus' Name I Pray, Amen.
