Rocky Road of Life

My Grandpa use to say, “It is just a pebble in the rocky road of life.” We encounter all types of things on our journey in life – it is not always a smooth road. We may experience big pebbles, small pebbles, giant rocks, mountains, hills, endure through the snow, sweat it out in the heat or have really nice days when it is perfect driving weather. But along the journey we will need our faith. Not just the on and off again faith - faith where you are dwelling in the Lord!

Psalm 91 is a great Psalm to read all of if you get a chance – it is so good! It is talking about dwelling in the Lord, and what happens when we make God our refuge. When you think of dwell, think of making the Lord your permanent resident. Jesus moves into our heart and dwells within us when we are saved, He gives us His Spirit. We are in Him and He is in us - 1 John 4:13 This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit (NIV). Dwell is move in and stay put with the Lord, not like in and out of God’s life. Just spending time with him here and there when we feel like it. Dwell is seeking to spend time with Him, listen to Him and having a full-on relationship with Him.

Look at what happens when we dwell in the Lord in Psalm 91:11-12 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone (NIV).

When we come to pebbles in the rocky road of life, God is going to help us with those pebbles if we are dwelling in the Lord, having an intimate relationship with God. With God the pebbles are sustainable. You will be able to step right on those pebbles, or as the Bible says, the angels will lift you up.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You dwell within in us! I pray that I dwell with You, making You number one in my life. In Jesus’ Name I Pray, Amen.
