God’s Word is My Sword

For a long time my Bible would just sit on a shelf collecting dust. I would pick it up and read it here and there, but now I cannot hardly set it down. It is my favorite book to read, even if it is just one verse at a time. What that one verse can do is powerful. I went through a period of time where I was anxious all the time. I would have panic attacks, and the only place I felt actual comfort was being in God’s Word and spending time with Him to allow Him to teach me through Scripture, heal me and bring a comfort through my anxiety that only He was able to do.

We have a sword – the Bible! The Bible says in Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

We need God’s Word to help us in life. It is not like any other book. The Word is alive – In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God (John 1:1). God’s Word is truth – Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me (John 14:6). It will guide us –Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path (Psalm 119:105). It is food for the soul – Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God’” (Mathew 4:4).

Remember who you are in Christ and go get your sword and open it up when Satan tries and attacks your thoughts, gets you anxious, discourages you, distorts the truth about who you are or tells you something is good for you that’s not, and God will give you the truth to defeat Him. The Bible is our hope! It will cut through all of that and equip us to keep going in God’s will!

What is God trying to tell you today through his Word that is alive and at work in your life?
