God is My Strong Tower

Over the summer we went to Colorado and visited the Royal Gorge Bridge which is the highest suspension bridge in the United States. I am literally afraid of heights! I spent time in prayer before we went and while we were driving. I was way anxious like an hour before we even got there. But the crazy cool thing was, when we did get there, it was like God said, “You’ve got this!” I was more afraid on the drive there than I was when I crossed over the bridge. That was God answering my prayer as I ran to Him for help to conquer my fear.
I tell this story, because as I was reading the story of a guy named Abimelek, in Judges chapter 9, it reminded me of how I ran to God for help to conquer my fear. Abimelek was after these people and the people ran into a strong tower and a lady was able to step out and defeat him.
It says in Proverbs 18:10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe (ESV).
When we run to God, our strong tower, we do not have to be afraid. Taking steps out in faith can be scary. I understand this 100 percent, but we have a helper and He is pretty mighty and strong. He is the perfect One we need to be running to, to help us overcome those fears – perfect love drives out fear (1 John 4:18). We can be bold through Jesus, bold to step out and defeat what looks like giants in our life! We have a strong tower who keeps us safe when we run to Him!
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that You are our strong tower that we can run to. I pray that I will believe this verse today with my whole heart and be bold through You! In Jesus’ Name I Pray, Amen.
