In 1 Kings 19 Elijah gets scared and he flees, because Jezebel threatened his life. I am thinking, how can Elijah go from doing a brave thing with confidence in the chapter before, to running away and hiding out? This chapter describes an important message of how we need God daily in our lives, because He is the bread of life.
John 6:35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty (NIV).”
Somedays we may feel like we can conquer a giant and other days we may feel more like running away. Somedays we may feel like we are winning and somedays we may feel like we are losing. Somedays we may be believing the lies of the enemy, because he wants to scare us to give up. God is so good – he has the nutrients we need to feed our souls to strengthen us on our journey!
God met Elijah by the bush he fled to, because He never leaves us. He tells Elijah twice to get up and eat and drink because the journey is too much for him (v.7). There was bread baked over hot coals by his head and water, so he got up and ate and drank and it strengthened him (v.8).
Today I want to underline the words he ate the bread and drank the water and it strengthened him. The journey of life is too great for us to handle on our own, we need God to feed our souls so that we are strengthened for it. When God strengthens us we are able to do all things through Him (Philippians 4:13)! Pick up the Word today, it is food for the Soul!
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for fueling our souls with Your Word! I pray that You will strengthen me today on my journey. In Jesus’ Name I Pray, Amen.
